Skooby was born in Asheville N.C. in the 1970's, and left home in the early 1990's to join the USAF. His first station was  in Okinawa Japan. While in the military, he studied Body Piercing under Mary Kotani at the Hide-A-Way, a well-known studio of tattoo artists and piercers in Japan.  This studio has a long tradition of excellent service and style of tattoos and piercings in their location.

After Japan he was stationed at Hill AFB in Utah, where he started his formal tattoo training under Kelly Miller at S.M. Art Tattoo in Salt Lake city Utah in 1999. Since then, he has traveled across the country learning new styles and continuing to grow and hone his skills on skin, while continuing to practice and perfect his piercing skills. He has participated in conventions, bike rallies and guest spots all over the country. Until recently he owned his own studio, but moved to this area to be closer to family now that he has started his own family .

As a piercer, he has been trained to do all types of varieties of body modification from simple ear lobe piercings and navels to complex surface piercings and dermal anchors and everything in between. With tattooing, he has prided himself on his ability to work with and come up with custom designs for clients, bringing the tattoos alive for new and veteran collectors. Skooby's favorite styles are bold color work and anything oriental in nature, but he can do any style that the clients may desire or imagine.
